While working for a Broadway producer, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Brandon Smithey and Jessica Penzias. Over the years, our shared passion for theater led us to co-found Above the Fray Entertainment in 2022, with a mission to support the development of plays and musicals for the Broadway stage.

We are highly selective about the projects we invest in, guided by what we call the “Cheese Grater Test.” Each of us independently evaluates whether a show:

• Sparks a genuine passion for the material

• Can realistically recoup its budget

• Will resonate with theatergoers

• ​

In 2025, we were honored with our first Tony Award nomination for Best Musical Revival for GYPSY as part of the producing team, and the production also won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical. We are currently Co-Producers on the First National Tour of SUFFS.

 

Looking ahead, we are developing a new musical slated for Broadway in the 2028 season.
